We have four axis milling capability and multiple pallets for maximum efficiency and accuracy with tolerances below one thousandth of an inch.
Quality control at MMI is fully trained and equipped to provide a precise final inspection on every part to ensure that all tolerances have been met or exceeded, so that parts do not leave our facility without satisfying all of our customers' requirements.
Mesa Machining, (MMI) is fully staffed with talented and thoroughly trained machinists operating a full variety of CNC machining centers. We can perform any operation required on parts of any configuration for any industry.
Our equipment includes CNC tuning centers, CNC vertical machine centers, and CNC horizontal machine centers.

Yes! Our foundry is a flexible job shop, which allows us to tailor the casting processes to your specifications.
What standards do you follow?
We strictly follow ISO 9001 practices, procedures and guidelines. Our ISO customers find our quality systems and procedures meet there standards and approval although we are not certified.
What is gray iron?
A large majority of the iron castings produced are of gray iron. The generic term "cast iron" is often used to refer to gray iron. The name comes from the characteristic gray color on the metal on a fractured surface. This is caused by the presence of fine graphite flakes in the iron.
The flake graphite in the gray iron provides it with excellent machinablility at hardness levels that provide superior wear characteristics, the ability to resist galling under borderline lubrication, and unusual elastic properties that provide excellent vibration damping.
What is ductile iron?
The latest addition to the family of cast irons is ductile iron, which was discovered in the 1940's. It is sometimes referred to as nodular iron and is called SG or spherulitic graphite iron in England. An unusual combination of properties is obtained in ductile iron because the graphite occurs in spheres or spherulites rather than as individual flakes. This mode of solidification is obtained by alloying a very small amount of magnesium with the molten iron. The metallurgy of this addition is quite involved because magnesium is a very reactive metal and vaporizes at the temperature of molten iron.
The high carbon and silicon content of ductile iron retain the casting process advantages and the excellent machinability of gray iron. Ductile iron has a high modulus of elasticity with a linear stress-strain relation, a very good range of yield strengths, and ductility. The majority of applications of ductile iron have been made to utilize its steel-like mechanical properties in combination with the castability, machinability, and corrosion resistance of gray iron.
What is a sand casting foundry?
A sand casting foundry produces sand molds into which molten metal is poured. After the metal is poured, the casting is removed from the mold and the sand can be recycled. There are several common types of sand casting:
No-Bake \ Airset
Green Sand
No-Bake \ Airset
No-bake molds are expendable sand molds that contain a quick-setting liquid resin and catalyst. The molding sand is poured into the flask and held until the resin solidifies, which occurs at room temperature. Because no heat is involved it is called a cold-setting process. The no-bake process is primarily used for low to medium volume work.
Green Sand
In the green sand process, sand is coated with a mixture of bentonite clay and water. These molds are made of wet sand that is used to make the mold's shape. The green sand process lends itself to high-volume work.

How are Gray Iron Castings made?
There is a specific series of steps used to make Gray Iron Castings. The 4 common steps are:

Create a wood or metal pattern of the part or parts to be cast.
-
Use the pattern to create a sand mold that holds the shape of the part after the pattern is removed.

Pour molten Gray Iron into the sand mold.
-
Remove the sand mold after the casting has cooled, leaving the new raw Gray Iron casting.
What do castings cost?
It is impossible for us to quote prices for labor charges without first seeing the piece or pieces in question. We invite you to send your designs to our Reliance Foundry sales team, and we will gladly give you an estimate before any work is begun. Of course, all designs sent to us either for pricing or as orders to be processed are held in strict confidence.
How are castings made?
There are several processes available to produce castings. Sand molding, where the replica of a finished piece (or pattern) is compressed with sand and binder additives to form a shape of the final part, is probably the most common form of production. The pattern is removed after the mold or impression has been formed and then the metal is introduced through a runner system to fill the cavity. The sand and the metal is then separated and the casting cleaned and finished for shipment to the customer.
